Paired Research Challenge

LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.

Our challenge was to create a DLO that tells others about the dinosaur we found when we excavated our dinosaur egg . My partner and I found the skeleton of a Parasaurolophus. Add an interesting fact about your dinosaur here. Something I found interesting was that the Parasaurolophus was conered by a predator it would use its size to trample and stomp the predator.

Provocation

I made a DLO about the Polyneisian Panthers and the Dawn raids and our question was, should the Government of today (2021) have apologised for the dawn raids of yesterday (1970s)?  The dawn raids of the 1970s involves several considerations. The prime minister was apologizing on the behalf of the government in 2021. An apology could acknowledge the pain that they have caused over the past years towards the Pacific community. The pakeha didn’t treat the Polynesian Panthers fairly throughout their entire lives, creating generational trauma for the youngs one to pass on when they are older. Our opinion was that the government of today (2021) should apologise for the past actions of the dawn raids from yesterday (1970) to insure no other public outcries occur and so no other families hold any grudges / anger. The dawn raids back then was unacceptable and caused generational trauma.

Malala Yousafzai

For reading we have been learning about Malala Yousafzai an her braveness towards her learning and education, she was a tenacious young soul who never backed down even when facing a gun to her head, that belonged to the Taliban. Malala Yousafzai did’nt let that put her down even making a big speech to all the world leaders in the united nation, she fought for peace, social justice, and gender equality. We made a poster on one of her famous quotes that she said to the nations, and we chose ” Empower others with the weapon of knowledge,” because it brought a sense of empowerement and was a inspirational quote. Something I found interesting was she got shot on the left side of her head and never gave up.

Fossils

LI: To understand how scientists know so much about dinosaurs.

LI: To recognise different types of fossils and how they are formed.

In this activity, we worked together as a group to make a project that shows the difference between trace fossils and body fossils. Our project included examples and explained why each one is important. For example, trace fossils are clues left behind, like footprints, trails, or burrows. On the other hand, body fossils are actual parts of creatures, like bones, dinosaur skeletons, or seashells. It was interesting to learn that trace fossils can often be found on hills or hard surfaces.

Podcast With Mary Anning !

LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

LS2 were challenged to capture the story behind Mary Anning, a pioneering fossil hunter and paleontologist during the early 19th century. Something I learnt was finding a out  why she started to find fossils , she started finding fossils because her dad use to but he wasn’t famous like Mary he was just a normal paleontologist and was looked down by many for not making it anywhere so Mary wanted to show others that you can make it somewhere just by finding fossils , and that’s what touched me that Mary anning didn’t just do it for herselft but for her dad too but I had lots of fun and I enjoyed learning about her .

Paleontologist

For inquiry, we watched a video showing paleontologists digging for dinosaurs. We learned about what a paleontologist is and what they do. For this activity we were challenged to create a 50 word (we weren’t allowed to do over 50 or under 49) statement that tells us what paleontology is and what palaeontologists do on a DLO. One fact we found interesting is that Mary Anning was the first palaeontologist to find a fossil.

Cinquain poem (Whakaari)

Li: For Literacy Ls2 created a Cinquain poem, what is a cinquain poem you might ask? well the first line of a cinquain poem contains One noun, 2 adjectives, 3 Verbs and 4 phrases and 1 synonym and thats what a cinquain peom contain but before we started our Cinquain poem we did a another poem chosing a person we look up to and create the poem. For my practice poem I chose Apii Nicholls because she is a very perserved rugby player and Motivates people to chase their dreams and don’t give up. After the practice poem we got started on our actual cinquain poem we got the choice to pick between 2 volcanos (Whakaari and mount tarawera). After that For the first verse we described how a a volcano sleeps like what it looks like, Then for the second verse we had to explain the volcano awakening from her dormant. After that is the third verse this verse is describing how the volcano reactes when it erupts, and lastly is the fourth verse this verse is where I describe How it causes discretion to the land. The we pasted our cinquain poem from our framework and put in onto a Google draw a make it pretty. Then lastly we blogged explaining the steps on creating our cinquain poem and saying what we enjoyed. Something I enjoyed about this task was finding powerful words to describe the stages of volcanos. Heres my work.

Place Values Up To Millions And 2 Decimal Points.

Today in Maths, Miss Fisi’ahi got each Maths group to create a DLO about what we are learning about at the moment. My Maths group was learning how to name place and total values up to Millions and two decimal places and created a DLO explaining how to so that it can teach others who don’t know how to do it. This was a collaborative task and that was my favourite part about it because we could get more information in the DLO.

Why Maungarei Sleeps.

For Writing Ls2 created a pour quoi story about why Maungarei sleeps, What is a pour quoi story  you may ask ? So let me tell you!. A pourquoi story is a why story it is basicly telling you why something is the way it is and in french pourquoi means “Why”. We had a frame work to organize our story in time sequence. we had to explain detail about our mountain or volcano like giving it a name or describing how the volcano reacted when it erupted , Then we had our problem we explained how Maungarei effected the locals at the time. Then we described how Maungarei became a dormant volacno after its eruption. Then lastly our resolution how did Maungarei turning into dormant volcano help the locals build New Zealand to the way it is now. After that we go onto adobe express and genrate a ai image describing it to look like as it says in our stories then lastly we copied and pasted all our writing and put our ai gentrate image on our blogs and blogged.

Many hundreds of years ago in a country across the sea, there lived a fierce mountain called Maungarei. Watching over aotearoa,  When she woke from her slumber her roars were louder than thunder . As her fiery volcanic heart awoke the other mountains all around her. They knew it was time to seek cover.

She was surrounded by her siblings who despised her for always getting everything. They thought she loved being the youngest but in reality she hated it, she didn’t like to be different, she always wanted to be treated the same as her siblings.

Until she had enough ridicule she exploded with fury as hot ash came out chasing her siblings away as they ran to take cover. After her volcanic tantrum Maungarei cried herself to sleep realising she was all alone becoming a sleeping guardian to Aotearoa.

The people who called Maungarei home used the scars of her past fury to plant their kakano.  Everybody lived in harmony shaping the land to be how it is today without any fear of Maungarei waking from her slumber. While Elders share the stories of Maungarei to their mokopuna. (grandchildren)

Maungarei temper lies within her volcanic heart ,While the local whenua around her are in harmony and peace. While her eyes might remain close but her heart wil

Volcano’s Animation

For inquiry we learned about volcanoes and created a animation about volcano’s and how they erupt , what causes a volcanic eruption? The volcano erupts when 2 tectonic plates crash and touch each other that can make the magma rise to the Earth’s surface which can rise and flow out onto the flat surface of land  I enjoyed doing this activity because I get to learn new information about volcanoes by watching the videos and using our smart searching skills.
