Legs Tally : Step It Up

For this week’s Summer Learning Journey, I found some cool facts about the Giant Centipede. I started by looking up information about centipedes to answer some questions. This activity was fascinating because some questions were hard to find answers to, while others were easier, making it a unique way to learn and research. One fact I learned is that centipedes have an odd number of legs, not an even number!

Summer Learning Journey – Art in the web

This week’s Summer Learning Journey involved creating and bringing to life a drawing of a spider web. This hands-on experience was enjoyable and enlightening, reminding us of the value of using our hands and imagination in learning. Did you know that spiders often eat and recycle their webs to regain protein and create new ones? The Summer Learning Journey is truly fun and exciting. Thank you, Manaiakalani, for your dedication and effort.

Summer Learning Journey – Art In The Web

This week for the summer learning journey we were exploring the art of spider webs using our own imaginations !

Our topic was titled Art In The Web. We began by learning how to draw a spider web, which was a fun experience. Next, we tested our spider skills by creating our own spider webs using pencil and paper. I found this task quite fascinating, especially since we could engage in a game related to the activity we were working on. This made the learning process even more enjoyable. One interesting fact I learned about spider webs is that they are thinner than a strand of hair yet incredibly strong. They are marvels of nature, and understanding them added an extra layer of interest to our activity. Overall, this task was both enjoyable and entertaining, giving a unique blend of creativity and learning.

Diary WW1

LI: To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there

We have been looking at the events that took place at ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915, during WW1. Many of our NZ soldiers were wounded or killed in action. We looked at videos that showed the Anzac soilders life in the trenches, and explored the Walking with ANZACs site which let us to read Hami Grace’s diary. Doing this task helped us put our own diary entries together . We used Google Vids to record our diary entries. I enjoyed using this as it allowed me to create a better  setting like I was world war 1, and Something I found interesting about this task was being able to record reading while showing my face because it will allow me to rewatch the video and tell me what I need to work on while recording like my expression or where I need to change where it doesn’t make sense.

Samuel Marsden

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find out who Samuel Marsden was and what he is known for.

We used our smart searching skills to research facts about Samuel Marsden.who is samuel marsden is you say? Samuel Marsden was a priest of the Church of England and an missionary who came to Australia (New south wales) in 1794 and later became interested in the Māori people of New Zealand. and we did this task because we had learnt about Samuel Marsden and what he well known for , To make sure our facts were correct we used three different websites. The websites I used were Wikpedia, google and Nz history Something interesting I found out about Samuel marsden was he had a close relationship with the Maori
I learnt its is important to use my own words because I learn best when I use my own words instead of copying and pasting.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

Our challenge today was to write and record our pepeha to introduce ourselves.I found this intersting and amazing because I got to learn about how my family migrated to New Zealand and ther cultural background

Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand what Kauri dieback is and how it spreads

Our challenge today was to use the links provided and our own smart searching skills to find out what Kauri dieback is and what we need to do to try and prevent this from spreading. We need to know about this so that we do our part to keep our Kauri safe when we go on hike at camp. I worked with Jaeliyah and something we found interesting that phytophthora Agathidicida (kauri dieback disease) is a fungus that infects and kills kauri. It spreads through soil movement, including: on footwear and other clothing and gear. on vehicles driven in affected areas. Even animals like:Pigs, dogs etc can trigger kauri-dieback disease.

Evolution of the NZ Flag

LI: To understand the story behind our flag

Our challenge today was to create a collaborative presentation that reflects the story behind our NZ flag. We did this by looking at how our flag has changed over time. Something I found interesting was the flag of New Zealand used by boats or ships as a form of signal. Read on for the meanings of flags and more information on historical flags. Flags have been used by boats to signal one another since the time boats and ships made voyages to the sea.

What Learning Should Look Like in LS2

LI: To co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2

Our challenge today was to co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2. We thought about what we expected to happen so we could make teh most of our learning time then thought about what our teachers expected.I collaborated with 4  Daniel P, Darius, Amorangi, Valencia which I enjoyed because This activity collabrative  was because we all collabrative, worked together and communicate with one another
